Firefighters Catch a Bad Guy, Judge Releases Him

On August 26, 2020 firefighters from Engine Company 214 in New York witnessed Daniel Briggs, a 53 year old male ride his bike past 60 year old woman, punching her in the mouth on the way by. The firefighters then pursued Briggs, taking him into custody to be arrested. In the scuffle, Briggs punched a 29 year old firefighter in the eye, causing bruising and swelling.

What followed this situation is evidence of the glaring problems New York is facing with their catch and release.

He was ordered held on 20,000, but he was released without bail four days later after a second court appointment.
